Sonata Breast Pump by Medela

Baby TALK On Baby TECH:

In Spring of 2012, I (and a very talented team) had the exciting honor of winning an Edison Award (www.edisonawards.com) in the category of Industrial Design Tools. At this point in my product development career, I was a fledgling in both business and innovation.  This experience skyrocketed my venture to wonderful new heights.  All I had to do was manage the trajectory. Easy, right?!

 Edison Awards

The Edison Awards is an annual competition honoring excellence in new product and service development, marketing, human-centered design, and innovation. The Edison Awards symbolize the persistence and excellence personified by Thomas Edison, while strengthening the human drive for innovation, creativity, and ingenuity.  After winning this award, I have been asked to participate in the judging process for the past 5 years.  Even more satisfying than winning, is the privilege to peek into an awe-inspiring new crop of nominees.

One such nominee is a product and company after my own heart; Sonata Breast Pump by Medela (http://www.medelabreastfeedingus.com). Check it out:

They said it, and I wholeheartedly agree; this is amazing! Sonata has vastly improved the breast pumping experience.  To achieve simplicity in product design is no easy feat, however, Sonata Breast Pump has done exactly that by creating a critically important product that is smart, highly adaptive to moms, with comforting performance.  I can only imagine this renders the ultimate goal of happy moms/happy babies.

The 2017 Edison Award winners will be decided April 20 in New York, NY.  Sonata Breast Pump fits the bill indeed to be among an admirable group of innovations.  Best of luck to you! We will keep our on eye you.  Regardless of the outcome, you have a winning product, especially considering the benefactors - the most precious of all of us - BABIES!

Longboard Strollers by Quinny

Baby TALK On Baby TECH:

Most innovation in the world of babies centers on the utmost care, whether it involves comfort, entertainment, feeding, safety, or personal care. The baby mobility category is one that can certainly combine the necessity factor with the truly COOL factor. We have all seen nifty baby strollers that have cup holders and under carriage cargo. We have marveled at parents who run with the babies in optimized strollers with big wheels and tires with treads. We have also seen what I would consider baby caravan style strollers that accommodate twins/triplets/ or almost everyone in day care.

All of these baby buggy innovations prove one thing: mobility adaptation is primarily for the parent or caregiver's lifestyle. Rightfully so. I have always thought it best to raise our littlest of people to our specific lifestyle as much as possible. Sure, there are hiccups along the way: tears, screams, tantrums. With time, these seem to smooth over and the result is happy "mom", happy baby.

Nothing I have seen to-date in the world of baby mobility innovation is as niched AND as cool as Longboard Strollers by Quinny.  Quinny does make a compelling full line of baby buggies. Check out their website: http://www.quinny.com/longboardstroller/#. However, today all focus is on these head turning boards that also accompany baby in the most streamlined of fashion.

Quinny describes these strollers as “The solution for travelling long distances in a fun and eco-friendly way. It brings together the comfort of a traditional stroller and the excitement of longboarding. Thanks to its multiple safety features, it is the most exciting way to get around with your child.”

Good job, Quinny. I can only imagine your next move involves hover boards or something involving Mars. Either way, you have effectively made parenting look cool AGAIN.

Air-Free Baby Bottle by Bare

Baby TALK On Baby TECH:

We as humans thrive on change.  Innovations make our lives simpler, easier, and more exciting.  Therefore, what better demographic to focus technology talk on than babies! After all, babies are the future of humanity, and the ones that change the most in the shortest amount of time.

FormulaNow dedicates this blog to BABY TALK ON BABY TECH. Innovations from feeding, nutrition, gadgets, and play things will be topics for this most important catch-me-if-you-can demographic of our human experience.  Here we go!...

Air-plug moves to deliver Air-free milk.

As a former Edison Award Winner (http://www.edisonawards.com/index.php) and a 4-time judge, I look to this community periodically to see how innovations are viewed by peers. This year, 2015, in the category of Personal Care & Wellness, Bare Air-free baby bottles by Bittylab won gold in this category. These bottles use a unique syringe-like technology that feeds baby air-free milk in an upright position to help prevent even the most severe gas and colic. Its Perfe-latch® nipple extends in length during feeding. The tip has multiple different sized orifices allowing baby to control milk flow with suction strength. Check it out at http://www.bittylab.com/.  One of the best things about this product is it is designed by MOMS with a keen focus on extending - NOT REPLACING - breast feeding.  Nice!
